| Ron
Fazio was transferred to the 2/12 in Sept of 1970 when his unit, the
199th, stood down. He served initially with a Mortar Co.
at Firebase Jamie and subsequently as HHC clerk when Jamie was
deactivated and the companies moved to Camp Husky. His
pictures provide a fascinating perspective on the last months of the
25th, from it's moves to Husky, Camp Freznel Jones, and finally
standown. The pictures are divided among those three
settings. The second to the last picture show newbies waiting
in line in their unaclimmated skin and dark green fatigues, waiting
for assignment. The last photograph is of something all of us
dreamed about, the entrance to DEROS tent. Ron has the unique
title of last man in the 2/12 in Vietnam. As the HHC clerk he
got the signatures of all the troops as they checked out of the
unit. The last signature on the list is his. After
signing it, he came home. |
